Painting A Ceiling That Has Popcorn Texture

Popcorn ceiling texture was very popular in the 70′s and 80′s but is rarely seen in newer homes today. If you have popcorn ceiling texture on the ceilings in your home and would like to paint it, the best option is to spray the ceilings using an airless paint sprayer, which is what one of our employees is doing in the posted picture. If you do not own an airless sprayer or have not had any experience using one then you can roll the ceilings using a paint roller. Just keep in mind that it is a very messy job so you will need to make certain that all flooring and furniture are completely covered using drop cloths and clean plastic before you begin. Once all flooring and furnishings are covered, clean the ceiling by removing any dust or cobwebs using a fiber duster. Once you have cut in the ceiling paint to the wall using your paint brush next, using your paint roller, slowly apply the paint to the ceiling working only in one direction. Once you have made a pass with your roller, do not attempt to roll back over the same area because this may cause the popcorn texture to pull away and peel from the surface. If the ceiling will need an additional coat of paint, allow the first coat to completely dry before applying any additional coats. Painting a ceiling which has popcorn texture is a messy and time-consuming job that will require some patience and hard work but the clean, freshly painted ceiling is worth the effort. If this is a job that you would rather leave to a professional painter, then contact a local Vestavia Hills Al painting contractor to complete the job.
